I Use Crayola Products in Every Drawing?!
Whether you're an artist for or against Crayola products, there's one material I use in nearly every drawing from the iconic crayon company--Crayola Erasable Colored Pencils. Whether I'm warming up in my sketchbook, want a break from graphite, or creating a full illustration, erasable colored pencils quickly became a go-to for my art.
With a my love of alcohol-based markers, typically the ink picks up graphite on the page and muddies the colors you're putting down. Since I mostly sketch in pencil for its erasability, having the marker mix with the graphite isn't ideal. Instead, I opt to create my base sketch in a colored-pencil color similar to the marker colors I plan on using so the colors stay vibrant and clean.
Crayola Erasable Colored Pencil Quality
The pencils themselves are decent quality, and erase completely when needed. While occasionally a wax buildup could happen going over the same spot too many times, keeping the pencil's tip sharp can help you achieve a solid base sketch.
Other erasable colored pencils exist on the market, such as Prismacolor Premier Col-Erase Colored Pencils, but with a higher price point per pencil, Crayola's are a more affordable option for me. And since I'm still using the same erasable colored pencils I've had since middle school, they've definitely given me my money's worth.
If you're interested, I recommend trying erasable colored pencils in your own artwork. It might surprise you how the colored sketch completely changes your drawing--and you too might use Crayola products in every piece you make.
