A Few "Fine"Liners
From cartoony styles to realism, fineliner pens can play a crucial role in outline artworks, achieving small details, or adding final touches to a work of art. But the pen's job usually needs to satisfy a few ideals: small sizes, consistent ink flow, fasting drying, low smudging, and as always, affordability.
My Top Fineliner Brands
- Pigma Micron
In the art community, most of the hype goes to the Pigma Micron pens--as it should. This Japanese-based company produces waterproof ink in tons of colors, nib types, and sizes for anyone from manga artists to journalers. I've been using Micron for around five years, and I've only needed to replace a 0.5 pen once (Not to say I haven't bought all the colors for fun).
- Stabilo point 88
With a tad cheaper price point and a more colors compared to Micron, the Stabilo point 88 fineliners mark a go-to pen for me. While not entirely waterproof, the amount of colors and shades just can't be beat.
For the fineliner experts out there, what are some of your go-to pen types? What determines a favorite purchase? Above all else, what sets apart a finer liner?
